What counts as short-term
Any rental of less than 28 consecutive nights.
Principal residence only
Short-term rentals are allowed only in the host's own home. Owners and tenants can both register.
Registration
Hosts register with the City ($390 a year) and show the registration number on every listing.
Entire home: 180 nights a year
Renting the whole home is capped at 180 nights per calendar year. Renting rooms while you live there has no annual cap.
Accommodation tax
A 6% Municipal Accommodation Tax applies to stays under 28 nights.
28+ night stays
These fall outside the short-term rental bylaw. Condo rules and Ontario tenancy law can still apply.
